From Unreachable to Activated Profiles
How Smart Data Enrichment Recovered 65,000+ Profiles Without a Single Form
Executive Summary
A premium fashion and fragrance brand encountered a silent yet critical issue: more than 65,000 customer profiles with valid marketing consent were not being activated in campaigns.
This was the result of three distinct data challenges:
An internal policy that limited campaign targeting to profiles with a valid country value.
Inconsistent formatting of existing country values, which complicated segmentation and targeting logic.
Missing country data due to upstream issues in data collection — including gaps in integration, incorrect capture practices, or technical limitations during registration and event tracking.
This case study explains how we resolved all three challenges using native enrichment logic within Bloomreach Engagement, without requiring additional tools, integrations, or customer input.
The Challenge
1. Missing Country → Policy-Based Exclusion
Although these subscribers had valid emails and full marketing consent, they were automatically excluded from newsletters and automations. The reason: an internal requirement that only profiles with a defined country value were eligible for activation.
This rule — while operationally justified — left tens of thousands of otherwise contactable users unreachable.
Impact: 65,000+ profiles could not be included in core campaigns due to the absence of a country field.
2. Inconsistent Country Values → Segmentation Risk
For profiles where the country field was populated, values varied across formats and systems:
Examples included: “UK”, “United Kingdom”, “Great Britain”, “GB”, uppercase & lowercase combinations & other values as well.
Such inconsistencies made the segmentation fragile, campaign filters unreliable, and overall data quality low. Without standardization, targeting logic became increasingly complex — and in some cases, ineffective.
3. Upstream Collection Issues → Missing Data
In many cases, country values were missing due to gaps in data collection — such as incomplete integrations, incorrect capture methods, or limitations in event tracking.
Valid contacts remained incomplete due to technical or process-level issues.
The Solution: Structured Enrichment, Fully Native to CDP
Rather than prompting users to fill in forms or adopting external enrichment tools, we implemented a CDP-native solution using existing behavioral and profile data owned by customers.
Step-by-Step Approach
Country Value Discovery
Identified and cataloged all country-related values from profile attributes and event metadata.Country Resolution Logic
Applied a structured waterfall approach using prioritized fallbacks:Profile-level fields (e.g. country, country_shopify, other country fields)
Behavioral events (e.g. registration, order, login, newsletter_signup, etc.)
Country Code Mapping & Standardization
Transformed all country values into official ISO 2-letter codes to ensure consistency across segmentation conditions.Campaign-Level Integration
Updated campaign targeting rules to use a clean, standardized list of country values—making sure older or inconsistent entries were still correctly included.Fully Native Implementation
All of the above was executed inside Bloomreach — no added tools, integrations, or manual interventions were needed.
Solution Example from the Bloomreach Engagement Platform

The Outcome
56.33% of previously not informed profiles were enriched with valid country data
65,000+ additional users became eligible for campaign targeting
Segmentation logic was simplified and standardized across the board
Multi-million EUR revenue potential was reactivated, based on internal CLTV models
Entire solution deployed without third-party tools or user input needed
Key Lessons
This project underscored three core principles for enterprise marketing operations:
Operational policies need clean data to work. Without country values, even legally contactable profiles are left behind.
CDPs can solve more than just orchestration. When used fully, native data enrichment logic can eliminate the need for external tools.
Behavioral signals are underutilized. Login, checkout, and registration events often contain implicit data that can be transformed into structured fields like country + language
Future Opportunities
This methodology can be replicated and expanded for other high-value attributes, such as:
Language or gender for personalized campaign logic
Zero-party data captured via banners, surveys, or email callouts
Data health automation, with alerts for missing or inconsistent critical fields
All of this can be implemented with a similar CDP-native mindset: reduce dependency, increase reliability, and unlock more value from what you already have.
Conclusion
Missing or messy country values were preventing a large volume of profiles from receiving relevant messaging. By applying structured, platform-native logic, we transformed a passive data segment into an active audience — quickly, cleanly, and without external overhead.
This case demonstrates that strategic data enrichment, when embedded into your existing stack, can restore access to high-value users and significantly impact campaign performance and business results.
